smartgrid

If you haven’t been to GE’s Smart Grid site, you need to check it out. It’s a sublime example of great storytelling on the web.

Like Jonathan Jarvis’The Crisis of Credit Visualized, this GE visualization takes a complex idea and makes it easy to understand. It also makes it fun, which is hugely important. GE takes it to the next level is by allowing users to interact with the story. For example, you can add additional wind turbines to the grid and see the resulting fuel and CO2 savings. And, for users willing to go the extra mile, the Augmented Reality feature lets users see “a digital hologram of Smart Grid technology come to life in your hand.”

Nicely done, GE. An innovative product will go a lot farther, a lot faster, when it has innovative storytelling to go along with it.
